The Importance of Discussing Your Wishes with Loved Ones | Prudent Planning Legal, PLLC

I always tell my Estate Planning clients to discuss their wishes regarding incapacity and end of life with their loved ones.  Having documents such as Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney, and Advance Directives (Living Wills) are necessary, but they will only take you so far.  It is essential to talk not only to your loved ones but also to your doctor and other health care providers about who acts as your agent under your Durable Power of Attorney and what sorts of life-saving measures you want taken.  If you do not have these discussions, there is risk that your wishes will not be followed.  I found this New York Times article that does a great job discussing this:  http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/17/health/the-trouble-with-advance-directives.html?ref=health&_r=0

I hope you find this article interesting and informing!
